COMPUTING MATTER
DESIGN RESEARCH LAB (M.ARCH) - ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATION
Matter as information explores the generative potential of material computation. Material experiments that privilege behavior through structural and fabrication morphologies were explored through pattern versioning and correlated physical modeling processes.
Lycra and plaster were used to generate forms under tension from the pouring of liquid plaster inside lycra pockets with studied patterning to control flow and expandability. The shell structure was then inverted once cured for its strength and stability to be tested under compression.
