P.LUSH - redefining recycled plastic
SHIFT+SPACE DESIGN & RESEARCH
Embedded in the heart of the vibrant dubai design district , P.lush offers visitors a unique interactive design experience and a glimpse of a world of endless possibilities for a sustainable future.
The design combines the use of generative design tools and a sustainable approach to recycling plastic to create a complex, responsive, environmentally conscious, and state of the art form. P.lush will provide you with a reason to stop, disconnect from the hustle and bustle to admire the complexity and beauty of the materiality of recycled plastic, reinforcing the idea that recycling is beautiful and has endless possibilities.
A contemporary interpretation of the concept of the Majlis, P.lush comprises 3 main geodesic domes connected to create 1 main structure, with the recycled HDPE panels derived from the colors of Emarati traditional attire. The white, black and gold infused plastic adds a layer of beauty, complexity and intimacy within the space.
Designed to respond to the pandemic, a developed, novel system is incorporated in the design to allow some panels to open up when the capacity of visitors increases a certain safe limit. This increases the wind flow inside the pavilion allowing better air circulation and acts as a sign to alert visitors.
Last but not least, this unique interactive system is design to interact with different visitors, as well as during different events. P.lush Abwab 2020 Pavilion is a statement to celebrate design, technology, culture and sustainability.
